Friendly saguaro 

Friendly Saguaro is constructed using the paper that is folded into triangular units, they are made for use in shipping to replace Styrofoam peanuts.  As soon as I saw the paper units at Upcycle (a fabulous, quirky art store in Tucson, AZ, now closed), I thought of a cactus. I also saw the wire at Upcycle and knew that it would make the perfect cactus thorns.  After photographing and studying the saguaros in my neighborhood, I knew what I wanted.  It took about three weeks to glue the pieces and thorns in place.   A few days of painting and putting in dirt with a small ledge for my snake and it was done.  The snake is a mesquite pod dried and painted to resemble a king snake. I named it Saguaro Light as it won't harm you with its thorns.
